2018 Young Women’s Empowerment Scholarship Winner
My name is Nia Waller. I was born and raised in Ellenwood, Georgia, just outside of Atlanta. I am currently a junior at the University of Georgia, where I am double majoring in Political Science and Sociology with a minor in Criminal Justice. On campus, I am an Advisor/Advocate in our University Judiciary, an Associate Justice for our Student Government Association, a Leaders Engaging in Affirming Diversity fellow, a student mentor, and an office assistant in our Human Resource Office. Upon graduation, I aspire to attend law school to become a civil rights lawyer, focused on issues of income inequality.
The Spiggle Law Firm scholarship has truly been an amazing help towards my goals! Due to the increasing cost of tuition, I have spent the last few weeks extremely concerned over how I will pay for classes in my last semester. Although I have paid my own room, board, and tuition each year I have been at UGA, this goal has become increasingly more difficult as the cost of attendance rises! The Spiggle Law Firm’s scholarship has now released me from a huge burden! I am so grateful for this scholarship, as well as the amazing work that this law firm does to empower women. As an aspiring attorney, I hope to one day carry on this amazing tradition!
