The Young Women’s Empowerment Scholarship
Update 2/25/2019: Read about this year’s winner here.
As specialists in workplace law, the attorneys of the Spiggle Law Firm deal with the effects of discrimination every day. Whether it’s unequal pay, the glass ceiling or sexual harassment, we see first-hand how unfair stereotypes and poor treatment hold women back. Proper legal representation can help, but we want to do more. That’s why we launched the Young Women’s Empowerment Scholarship.
This scholarship program is intended to raise awareness of these issues among college-bound women and help them overcome obstacles to reach their full potential. To apply, submit a 1,000-word essay outlining how you have had an impact on young women in your family or your community along with some background material. The winner of the scholarship will receive a $1,000 scholarship to further their post-secondary educational goals.
To be eligible for the Young Women’s Empowerment Scholarship, all applicants must be in excellent academic standing with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. They must also be currently enrolled in an accredited community college, undergraduate, or graduate program within the United States.
The applicant must write a 1,000-word essay explaining how they have empowered young women in their family or community. That can include helping someone overcome discrimination, teaching someone a new skill or encouraging someone to reach their goals. Essays will be judged on writing quality as well as the specific experiences described.
An application for this scholarship should include:
- An unofficial resume.
- A current transcript and a contact number for your college or other educational institution to verify current enrollment.
- A 1,000-word essay discussing how you have empowered young women in your family or community.
